What is a Family/Parent-School Compact?
A Family/Parent-School Compact is an agreement that parents, students, and teachers develop together. It explains how parents and teachers will work together to make sure all of our students reach grade-level standards. It provides strategies to help connect learning at school and at home.
Effective Compacts:
· Link to goals of the school improvement plan
· Focus on student learning skills
· Describe how teachers will help students develop those skills using high-quality instruction
· Share strategies parents can use at home
· Explain how teachers and parents will communicate about student progress
· Describe opportunities for parents to volunteer, observe, and participate in the classroom
Jointly Developed
The parents, students and staff of Isle of Hope K-8 School worked together and shared ideas to develop the Family/Parent-School compact. Teachers met on grade level teams to design practical strategies for parents to use at home. Parents provided valuable input on their needs to help their students. Students completed feedback forms to add ideas for the compact. A Family Forum is held each year to review and revise the compact based on the school’s academic achievement goals, students’ needs, teacher, staff and student input. Parents are welcome to provide feedback on the compact at any time during the school year. Our Goals for Student Achievement
District Academic Goals
Goal 1 Promote the development of foundational skills and expand early learning opportunities.
Goal 2 Advance proficiency in literacy and numeracy through high quality instruction and support for diverse learners.
Goal 3 Enhance learning opportunities to develop the critical thinking and interpersonal skills needed for workforce development and college readiness.
Goal 4 Provide high quality support and services for whole child development.
School Academic Goals
1. Increase the percentage of 1st-8th grade Isle of Hope Fiddlers scoring at or above grade level proficiency in reading from 39% to 42% by the 2025 Spring administration as measured by the i-Ready EOY diagnostic assessment.
2. Increase the percentage of 1st-8th grade Isle of Hope Fiddlers scoring at or above grade level proficiency in math from 29% to 35% by the 2025 Spring administration as measured by the i-Ready EOY diagnostic assessment.
Kindergarten Grade Promotion Requirements and Goals
Reading – By the end of Kindergarten, students will:
· recognize and name all upper and lower case
letters of the alphabet out of order.
· produce the sounds for each letter, including both long and short vowel sounds for the five major vowels.
Math –By the end of Kindergarten, students will:
· count to 100 by ones and tens.
· count objects accurately, up to 20 objects, and write the corresponding number, including zero.
Attendance Policy – A student may not have more than 15 absences for the year.
Building Partnerships and Communication
Isle of Hope K-8 School offers ongoing events and programs to provide parents and students with access to our staff and to promote communication between school and home –

· Family Resource Center (M-F 8:00am-2:00pm)
· Weekly Communication Folders
· Class Websites / Class Dojo
· Teachers will share Lexile reading scores and iReady math assessment scores with parents after each testing window.
· The school encourages all parents to sign up for Parent Access: PowerSchool to stay up to date on their children’s academic progress.
· Staff members are available to meet with parents before school, during planning time, and after school. Parents must contact the teacher to schedule an appointment to meet.
· Parents may call and leave a message for staff members during instructional time or email staff members at any time. Staff members are expected to return these calls/emails within 24 hours. Visit the school’s website to see class websites and staff email information.
· At least one parent conference will be conducted during the year where the compact is shared/discussed with families.
· Parents/guardians are welcome to be an active part of the school community as we provide opportunities to observe your student’s class, participate in school activities, and volunteer through the VISTA district program.
Family Engagement
· Parents can schedule classroom observation.
· Families are encouraged to speak with teachers regarding ways they can at school.
· Families will be encouraged to volunteer during school-wide events (Read Across America events, book fairs, PTA, etc.).
· School must support parents in adhering to SCCPSS volunteer guidelines.

At School, we will…
· Provide materials to send home for guided reading practice.
· Provide students with a list of sight words to enhance reading and send home materials to practice these words.
· Practice counting to 100 by 1’s and 10’s.
At home, parents will…
· Read with/to their children for at least 20 minutes a day.
· Use sight word list to review with their children daily.
· Practice counting to 100 with their child using the exercises provided by the teacher.
At home, students will…
· Read to/with someone for at least 20 minutes a day.
· Practice their sight words every day.
· Practice counting to 100 by 10’s and 1’s.
